St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was founded by entertainer Danny Thomas in 1962 and is one of the world's premier centers for research and treatment of catastrophic diseases in children, primarily pediatric cancers. 

To date, St. Jude has treated more than 19,000 children from across the United States and 60 foreign countries. Patients at St. Jude are accepted by physician referral when the child or adolescent is newly diagnosed or suspected of having a disease under research and treatment by the St. Jude staff.

Rick's father was a lifelong musician and played piano in bands with Danny Thomas (founder of St. Jude and father of Marlo Thomas) among others during the depression, thirties and early World War II years. Understandably, this world famous research hospital is close to his heart:-)
